How to Turn ON/OFF – Enable/disable javascript in Microsoft Internet Explorer (8)

Microsoft has changed the way javascript is enable or disabled in internet explorer 8. To enable or disable javascript in microsoft internet explorer 8 follow this:

  1. Open internet explorer
  2. Goto: Top menu (if not visible, press alt key to make the top menu visible) > Tools > Internet Options
  3. Once you are on internet options page, goto: security tab > Internet
  4. In Internet security settings for internet options of internet explorer 8, if you want to block the javascript simply slide the security level for this zone higher to High to block the scripts (javascript and others) from being executed on the webpage, or else move it to Medium to allow javascript for usual websites. If you want to allow it on all websites then move it to Low
  5. Apply the settings and press ok. Refresh your webpage or restart your browser (internet explorer 8) in order to make the new settings affective.

This way you can enable or disable javascript in your microsoft internet explorer 8.

I’ve done all you have suggested and I still can’t get my javascript working. Any more suggestions. I just downloaded IE8 for WindowsXP today.

    • Nabeel

can you please explain a bit what error are you getting? and which website are you testing on?

  5. Jeff Schlafer

I could open all my websites but when they me asked to login, the error message said that Javascript had not been enabled. It also stopped my ability to print from IE. As mentioned, I tried everything I could find but the solutions didn’t work. When I went to the tool tab, custom, to look at the script it said enabled. I then called Microsoft at 800-642-7676 and they were able to fix it although it took about 1 1/2 hours because he tried a lot of things. He is sending the fix to me and as soon as I get it, I will send it to you.

I have also recently installed IE8 on a vista system, since the install I have not been able to access my hotmail and facebook account (to name a few). I have tried the above but to no joy. I have also been onto the Java website and can confirm that I do have the latest updates install.

Could really use your help on this one.

      Hello jamie.

what error do you get when trying to login to these sites? because i am using ie8 on windows 7 (similar to vista in some sense) and it’s not giving any errors

however, did you try to download any alternate browser like google chrome or mozilla firefox and tried to open these sites in them?

      • Jamie Murray

        Thanks for the speedy reply.

However I think I have cracked it by un-installing Norton 360. Having said that the next problem I am encountering is when I type something into Google Search Engine, I click the page I want to open, but then it redirects me to a totally different page???

Also I cannot open a website that I have used many time http://www.connect.wincanton.co.uk/auth, the message reads

Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage

        What you can try:
        Diagnose Connection Problems

        Any ideas?
