WordPress 3.0 first release candidate (RC1) – A major breakthrough!

by Nabeel on June 5, 2010

The first release candidate (RC1) for WordPress 3.0 has been launched by wordpress. This means that the final version is near to be released.Until then it is not advised to use the release candidate on live production site, rather run it on a test server or domain and confirm if your website and configuration works fine with this release as few bugs can be expected.

Some of the main features done in this release candidate of wordpress 3.0 include:

  • Custom menus are added
  • minor changes to the look of the admin panel
  • Multi-site feature – a very powerful feature indeed! and a thing that i was waiting for -  for long! (no this multi site feature is different from standalone multiuser wordpress)
  • Tons of changes to the core – which means plugins and themes need to be tested if they work fine on the new 3.0 version of the WordPress
