Today i encountered the error code 80040154 on windows vista ultimate when signing in to msn / live messenger 2009.
You can view the error code by clicking on show details link in the popup.
There are two fixes to this solution, one is repairing the corrupted file, second is reinstalling the messenger to get rid of error code 80040154 and sign in without problem.
Cause: MSXML library may be corrupted and may have to be reinstalled
Before trying any fixes, simply restart your computer twice, it solves many issues itself usually. If not solved, then continue to the following (for error code 80040111 and 80040154:
1. Fixing the corrupted file
Re-register msxml3.dll by:
– Click on the Start menu, select Run or on search bar of start menu type the following:
Regsvr32 %windir%\system32\msxml3.dll
If you will see a window popup that says:
DllRegisterServer succeeded in C:\Windows\System32\msxml3.dll is succeeded.
It means that it is solved now.
Restart your computer and sign into Messenger again
2. Reinstalling the live messenger
If the above step does not fix the situation, simply uninstall the msn messenger and reinstall. Uninstall it by:
– Close the live messenger and all windows and then click on the Start menu, select Run or on search bar of start menu type the following:
mand msiexec /x {0AAA9C97-74D4-47CE-B089-0B147EF3553C}
This will run the wizard to uninstall the messenger.
After uninstall is completed, you can reinstall it from the messenger.live.com official website.
