Gmail is facing downtime woldwide affecting people who use gmail for email purposes or in applications. Google has acknowledge the issue but has not given any time line about when it will get solved!

Actually we are going to try opening gmail in a desktop email client instead of gmail.com website because usually only gmail.com site is down due to maintainance or server load issue, but not their mail servers!
So to start with, you need to download and try the Thunderbird Email Client by Mozilla.
Gmail official blog states that in the downtime you should be able to access your mail if you have IMAP or POP setup. So thunderbird configures it automatically for you which means you can run it and access your email account in no time!

After download, install and run the setup wizard, and select Gmail when it asks for email services in options and finish the setup with the required information it asks for. It takes only a minute to set it up and you are ready to access your gmail account!
You can use this method every time gmail is down!
