Google have been updating the PR more rapidly now. There is an update in google pr in august 2011.
There was update in June and July too (confirmed by me).
As Matt said that google keeps pagerank updated in real time but rolls out the update after several months, so we can be sure that no matter how fast they show us the pr update, our link juice and quality content always pays via realtime pr within google servers and code.
